The Mandinova Group

Kristina Todorova, PhD
Kristina earned her PhD from the Department of Gene Regulation at the Institute of Molecular Biology, Bulgarian Academy of Science, Sofia, Bulgaria in 2003, where she explored the significance of the C-terminal domain in human interferon gamma and its biological activity. Following her doctorate, she spent two years as a Research Associate in the same department. In late 2005, she joined the CBRC as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Park's lab, focusing on cutaneous inflammation's regulatory targets and pathways. In 2009, Kristina became a Research Associate in Dr. Mandinova's lab, and by 2020, she had advanced to the position of Research Program Manager. During her time in the lab, she has been actively involved in a wide range of projects, including investigations into the molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways of both benign and malignant skin tumors, the potential of skin as a bioreactor for the production and delivery of therapeutic agents, and the testing of new immunotherapy approaches. More recently, Kristina's primary research interest has been the metabolic reprogramming of epidermal stem cells. In addition to her research pursuits, Kristina manages the laboratory's daily operations, oversees compliance and research training, and facilitates interactions with other laboratories and collaborators

Fabiana Boncimino
Fabiana received her master’s degree in Biology in 2021 from the University of Naples Federico II and she is currently a Ph.D. student in Biomolecular Sciences at the University of Trento, Italy. She joined the Mandinova lab, where she is studying posttranscriptional mechanisms driven by RNA binding proteins in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC).

MICHELLE LIU B.S.
Michelle received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Northeastern University in 2024. During her undergraduate studies, she conducted research on MITF, a transcription factor crucial for melanogenesis and melanocyte function. Michelle joined the Mandinova lab after graduation and assists the lab members with their research projects.

Stefano Sol, PhD
Stefano received his Ph.D. in Biology in 2020 from the University of Naples Federico II studying transcriptional mechanisms and genetic pathways required for normal skin development and function that are altered in inherited and acquired skin diseases. More specifically, he studied the role of transcription factor p63, a master regulator of stratified epithelia, in (AEC) syndrome and developed novel therapeutic strategies to rescue epidermal defects. Thanks to an " IBSA Foundation Fellowships Call 2018", financed by IBSA Foundation, in 2018 he moved to Boston, at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he collaborated with Dr. Anna Mandinova to the identification of promising chemical compounds able to inhibit mutant p63 aggregation that the lab has recently identified. After completing his Ph.D. training, Stefano joined the Mandinova lab. Currently his work is focusing on the role of post-transcriptional regulation by mRNA-Binding Protein YBX1 in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC).

ENKHTUUL GANTUMUR, Ph.D.
Enkhtuul received her Ph.D. in Materials Science Engineering from Osaka University in Japan studying biomaterial design and 3D bioprinting techniques to create in vitro tissue models. After graduation, she joined Shiseido Co. Ltd in Japan and she conducted research on the cutaneous vascular system. Enkhtuul joined the Mandinova lab as a visiting fellow, where she is studying the impact of nutrition on skin health.
